AGEING AND BEAUTY: TRAVELLING EXHIBITION

4 generations of formidable fighters

Danielle and her family

This beautiful picture features four generations: Danielle, Grandma Maryette (83 years old), Ann-Élizabeth, Myriam, and the baby in her belly.

Taken in a field of Jerusalem artichokes, this photo is also a testament to the fighting spirit, resilience and strength passed down from one generation to the next. The light falling on the women’s shoulders elicits a sense of composure and patience. Above all else, we sense the intergenerational solidarity between all four generations: Grandmother Maryette is very proud of her descendants.

With characteristic courage, the group volunteered to step out of their comfort zone and take part in the photo project. Maryette confided, “I agreed to participate to please my granddaughter, Arianne, who is the project instigator. It was quite a challenge for me to strip down in front of the camera, but I’m really happy with the results and I don’t regret having done it.”

Maryette (83) said that becoming a mother, then a grandmother and finally a great-grandmother has been her greatest source of happiness. “Nothing brings me more joy than seeing all the little ones at family gatherings. I’m proud of my large family and I want every one of them to be happy,” she says. “Becoming a mother is the most precious gift and, although mothers have their fair share of sorrows, my brood has brought me great happiness.”
